Light Red

Light Red (code 23) is a medium-bright, slightly orange-red solid — a warm red with less depth and drama than Guards Red, lighter and more accessible than Carmine Red, and without the pink dilution that distinguishes lighter reds from conventional crimson. It occupies the bright, warm register of the red spectrum where orange and red overlap, giving it a character closer to Ferrari Rosso Chiaro or a fire engine than to the darker, more serious wine reds. The color appeared primarily on early 911 and 912 models during the late 1960s and early 1970s, when Porsche's red palette was more diverse and less standardized than it would become in later decades dominated by Guards Red and its variants. As a period solid from the earliest air-cooled era, original-paint Light Red examples require authentic documentation, and the color's warm, accessible character gives surviving examples a particularly friendly and approachable visual presence that contrasts interestingly with the mechanically demanding nature of early 911 specification.
