Named for the lilac flower rather than the mineral or mythological references Porsche typically favored, it captures the specific grey-purple of lilac blossoms in diffuse morning light — a hue that shifts perceptibly between lavender, grey, and soft purple depending on conditions. It was available on the 911, 912, 914, and 924 during the 1970s, appearing in some references under the name Royal Purple — a more assertive name for what is in practice a quite muted and restrained tone. Rennbow notes it as a five-paint-can unicorn in terms of rarity, reflecting both limited ordering in period and the advancing age of surviving original-paint cars. The later PTS color Moongem is explicitly presented as a reinterpretation of this historic Lilac / Moonstone family, connecting the 1970s original to a contemporary revival that has generated significant enthusiast interest on GT-spec 992 models.
