Magenta

Magenta (code 9 / Karminrot / IROC) is one of the most vivid and chromatic colors in Porsche's history — a fully saturated, pure magenta-pink that reads as uncompromising and joyful in equal measure. It first came to wide attention as one of the IROC (International Race of Champions) colors used on the Porsche 934 race cars in the 1970s, where its vivid character distinguished its car from the field in exactly the way race colors should. The German reference Karminrot (carmine red) reflects the color's position at the boundary between red and pink — a classic pigment derived from cochineol that has a specific vivid warmth distinguishing it from both cool magentas and warm roses. On the 930 Turbo and 911 SC it was available as a special-order option that very few buyers chose, making surviving examples genuinely rare. In the contemporary enthusiast community, 911s wearing original Magenta are among the most photographed and discussed air-cooled cars in existence — a color that has become a benchmark for Porsche's capacity for unapologetic chromatic expression.
