Code L32K is documented as a color primarily associated with the 914 from 1973–74, where it appeared as part of the bold, vivid palette that characterized the mid-engine sports car's identity during its production run. The 914 drew largely from VW palette colors, and Phoenix Red's placement in the L3xx series is consistent with this shared origin.
