Prussian Blue Metallic

Prussian Blue Metallic is a very deep, near-navy metallic blue that takes its name from the historic Prussian Blue pigment — the oldest known synthetic pigment, first produced in Berlin in the early 18th century and associated ever since with depth, authority, and the deep blues of European fine art and technical illustration. Code 33X renders a dark, serious metallic blue with just enough metallic complexity to prevent it from reading as flat black in poor light, while in direct sun it reveals a genuine, saturated blue of considerable richness. The hex (#122A57) confirms a color at the very dark end of the navy range — closer to midnight than to anything mid-tone. Prussian Blue Metallic appeared on the 911 in 1985, 1986, and 1990 and on the 928 in 1986, placing it in the mid-decade conservative palette when Porsche's buyers were increasingly choosing subdued, sophisticated metallics over the bolder solid colors of earlier years. It is a special color in the context of 1980s Porsche options — darker and more dramatic than the era's typical blue metallics — and surviving examples are valued by 911 and 928 collectors who appreciate its uncommon gravity.
