Paint cross-reference records show it appearing on the 911 and 924 in 1977 and 1978, a brief window when bold primary colors were just starting to go out of style. The color carries the word Rallye in its name, connecting it to the motorsport-inflected naming conventions popular at the time, though it was a standard paint option rather than a competition-specific finish. With five spotter entries — presumably predominantly European examples, given the rarity of the color on North American cars — it survives more commonly than many expected given how briefly it was offered.
