Ruby Star

Ruby Star (4SR), also known historically as Rubystone Red (Sternrubin), is one of Porsche's most celebrated and polarizing colors — a deeply saturated, vibrant magenta-pink that falls between violet and red on the spectrum, characterized by intensity, cold undertone, and a visual confidence that makes it immediately recognizable from a distance. Porsche's own description places it in the pink ruby category: rubies range from pink to purple, and this color captures the magenta-pink end of that range with impressive saturation. First introduced in the early 1990s under code 82N/LM3B on the 928, 944, 968, and especially the 964 Carrera RS 3.6 — where it became the launch color that defined the model — the color was also known in German as Sternrubin, meaning Star Ruby, making the current English name a return to that original meaning. The 964 Carrera RS in this color, with matching two-tone leather buckets, became one of the most photographed and desired configurations of that generation. Rubystone Red was discontinued in the mid-1990s as Deutsche Telekom's magenta brand campaign made violet-pink feel overexposed, but was revived in the PTS catalog as Ruby Star under code 4SR. A new standard-range interpretation, Ruby Star Neo (M4B), launched in late 2022 and is available without a PTS surcharge, though enthusiasts note subtle character differences from both the original 1990s paint and the classic PTS version.
