Signal Red

Signal Red (6011) is one of the earliest true reds in Porsche's factory palette — a pure, saturated non-metallic red introduced with the 356 B in 1960 as one of the model's new standard colors for that generation. The shade is a clean, assertive red with no significant orange or brown dilution, reading as a high-visibility signal color exactly as its name implies. Factory color chart documentation from the 356 era confirms it debuted under code 6011 for the 1960 model year alongside Aetna Blue, Heron Grey, Condor Yellow, and Royal Blue as part of a freshened palette. It carried forward through the final years of 356 production and into the transitional 1964–1965 period when both the 356 C and the early 911 were simultaneously in production, appearing on both models under related codes. Signal Red in the 356 and early 911 era predates Guards Red by more than a decade, and Porsche's official color history confirms it was among the seven standard colors listed when the 911 was introduced in 1964. Its six-paint-can rarity rating reflects how few survivors remain in unrestored original paint given the age of these cars and the historic tendency to respray reds when finish quality declined.
