Speedway Green (258, Speedwaygrün) is a vivid, bright solid green from the mid-1970s — a saturated, fully expressive green that Rennbow's cross-reference identifies as the same color known in English markets as Ascot Green or Shamrock Green, noting that Germans called it Speedway Green. Rennbow's Amazon Green Metallic entry confirms that Ascot Green replaced Viper Green in the palette and was a touch less blue and a bit more yellow than Viper, placing Speedway Green in that slightly warmer, yellower register. The color is documented primarily on the 912 E and on 911s of the same period, where forum researchers have confirmed it was among the very rarest factory color choices — at least one 912 E owner reports believing their car may be one of only a handful produced in code 258. Its two-paint-can rarity score confirms the extreme scarcity of surviving examples. Sadly, Rennbow notes, it was never a common color in the U.S., though it was a bit more popular in Europe.
