Steel Blue Metallic (631) is a very silvery, cool-toned metallic blue from the mid-G-body era of the 911 — a shade that Rennbow describes as sleek and sophisticated, emphasizing Porsche's design purity through the elegant interplay of metallic shimmer and a subdued blue base. The color sits at the intersection of silver and blue: it reads as a very light metallic blue in most conditions, with the silver component so prominent that it could almost be mistaken for a steel silver with blue undertones rather than the reverse. PCA color code documentation from 1974 confirms it was available as a special order color (code 631) on the 911 in 1974 and 1975, during the final long-hood and transition-to-G-model years. Rennbow additionally shows it on the 911 SC, suggesting it may have had a brief revival in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Its two-paint-can rarity score reflects that while it was available as a special order, it was almost never chosen.
