Tahoe Blue Metallic

Tahoe Blue Metallic (37C) is a medium-bright, clear blue metallic with a notably high luminosity that sets it apart from the deeper navy and cobalt blues common in the same era. Under good light it reads as a pure, saturated sky blue with a lively metallic shimmer; in shadow it deepens considerably but retains its blue-green clarity without shifting toward grey or navy. The color takes its name from Lake Tahoe, the alpine lake straddling the California-Nevada border, and the evocation is apt — it has the clarity and depth of high-altitude mountain water. It appeared in the Porsche palette for the 911 in model years 1990, 1992, and 1993, and on the 968 in 1992, classified as a special metallic during that period at a significant premium over standard metallics. Tahoe Blue was part of the ambitious but commercially ill-fated early 1990s special-color revival that Porsche offered alongside Maritime Blue, Mint Green, and Signal Green — colors that were almost universally rejected by American buyers at the time. The 968 Register documents a vanishingly small number of North American 968s ordered in Tahoe Blue, and forum discussions consistently describe it as a "love it or hate it" shade. Surviving cars in original paint are considered significant finds on the air-cooled market.
