Terra Cotta

Terra Cotta (5409), terrakotta in German, is a solid, non-metallic warm orange-brown with the characteristic dusty, fired-clay character that gives the color its name. With a hex at the intersection of sienna, brick, and rust — more subdued than a true orange but redder and more saturated than a pure brown — it evokes the warmth of kiln-fired Mediterranean roofing tile. In direct sunlight the orange component becomes more apparent; in neutral indoor light it reads closer to a warm, medium brown. This is one of Porsche's oldest documented exterior colors, listed by Rennbow specifically as a pre-A 356 color available in 1954–1955, making it a rarity from the very earliest years of Porsche production when the palette drew heavily on the Italian-influenced Mediterranean color sensibility common to European coachwork of the period. While the same terrakotta name would return in later decades as a popular interior leather color on the 986 Boxster, 987, 997, and other models, the original 5409 exterior paint is a wholly separate and far older entry. Collectors of pre-A 356 examples who encounter it regard it as a period-correct survivor color of significant historical interest.
