Violet Blue Metallic

Violet Blue Metallic (3AF), Veilchenblau Metallic in German, is a vivid, gemstone-like purple with strong blue overtones that was one of the most extroverted and distinctive finishes offered by Porsche in the early 1990s. The hex of #A478C6 confirms a medium-bright purple — warmer and more blue-shifted than a deep amethyst, lighter and more vibrant than the near-black Viola Metallic, occupying a jewel-toned middle territory. Rennbow describes it as a clear sign that the conservative 1980s were over when Porsche started experimenting with wild jewel tones in the 1990s. The car restoration project dedicated to the 964 in this colour documents it with the observation that just two 964s are believed to have been delivered to North America in this shade, and only one 968 cabriolet is accounted for on the entire North American continent. It was available on the 911, 928, 964, and 968 in 1993 as a one-year special colour. The code 3AF designates the Perlcolor variant specifically. With a rarity of four out of five, surviving original-paint examples are exceptionally rare and considered among the most desirable jewel-tone colours of the transitional air-cooled to water-cooled era.
