Violet Chromaflair

Violet Chromaflair (3C5), Violettchromaflair in German under codes 3C5 (waterborne) and 3C4 (conventional), is a colour-shifting ChromaFlair special finish with violet as its base hue, shifting to different tones under varying angles of light due to the interference-film technology embedded in its pigments. The hex approximation reflects a muted, pink-grey resting tone at one particular viewing angle — in reality the colour shifts across a broader spectrum, with violet dominant in frontal lighting and other tones visible at oblique angles. It was used exclusively on the 911 and Boxster Millennium Edition models released in 2000 to mark the turn of the century, making it one of the most precisely date-stamped and historically specific finishes in the entire Porsche palette. The Millennium Edition 996 and 986 were produced in limited numbers specifically for the year 2000 transition, and Violet ChromaFlair was their signature paint. Rennlist threads document the significant difficulty in sourcing the paint for repair work, confirming both its rarity and the specialist nature of the application. With a rarity of one out of five the production was sufficient to ensure moderate survival rates among collectors.
